Life360 App Saves The Life Of Grandmother And Granddaughter

Life360 is about being able to know where your family is, no matter where they go. With location sharing, every member of the family, old and young, can balance independence and safety, going where they’d like without sacrificing peace of mind.

In addition to location sharing, Life360 offers 24/7 driving safety and emergency assistance. You may think that that’s unnecessary for this kind of app, but when an emergency does happen, Life360 can be invaluable. Pamela Dennis learned that firsthand.

Dennis, who lives in Vinton, LA, was driving back home with her 4-year-old granddaughter, Ellyse, after picking up a puppy in Lake Charles. While she was driving, the puppy jumped down to Dennis’ feet, blocking her brakes. As she glanced down at him to move him, disaster struck: the car veered off the interstate and into a canal.

The car began to sink quickly, and Dennis struggled to call 911 while getting her granddaughter out of her car seat and out of the car.

“I did everything wrong,” Dennis said. “You have 30 to 120 seconds to get out of the car when it’s in the water. You don’t have time to call 911. I wasted time. The windows wouldn’t roll down because the electrical system shorted out.”

Meanwhile, Dennis’ daughters received an alert on the Life360 app that their mother’s car had crashed into the canal. Both of them, including Ellyse’s mother Kayla, quickly called Vinton PD immediately.

Fortunately, officers were just 2 miles away and were quickly on the scene to help them out of the car. Ellyse and the puppy were pulled out safely, but Dennis was still trapped in the car.

“Before I could get out of the car, it went completely under the water,” she said. “I broke my ankles trying to kick the window open to get out. My lungs were on fire. I couldn’t hold my breath for much longer.”

Just in time, the officers were able to break open the sunroof to get Dennis out. She had to spend ten weeks in a cast as her ankles healed, but she realizes it could have been much, much worse–especially since the first responders from her 911 call arrived ten minutes after the officers that rescued her and her granddaughter.

“If it wouldn’t have been for that Life 360 app, they would’ve been recovering bodies out of the water,” she said. “Looking back on it now, I realized we all would’ve drowned. How many people can say they have an app on their phone that can save their life?” Her daughter Kayla echoes her gratitude for Life360. “If I would’ve never gotten the message, I would have never known that anything had happened to them,” she said.
